At this point, the fetus is the same size as an avocado or a pear and your baby will weigh between 2.8 and 3 ounces. At 16 weeks pregnant, every mother will get excited because she can now feel her baby near her navel, and even sense the movements. This is the point where the mother could proudly feel her baby.
The Baby at 16 Weeks Pregnant
At 16 weeks pregnant, the baby’s features can now be seen. Though the baby’s skin is still wrinkly and translucent, he/she is now developing important body systems including circulation and the urinary tract. The baby also moves a lot, playing with the umbilical cord and moving inside your womb, probably trying out the best positions for sleeping. If your baby is female, at 16 weeks, she now fully develops her ovaries. The baby could be anywhere between 4.3 and 4.6 inches in average length. You will now feel the fetus at approximately 3 inches below the navel. Because of this, the surrounding placenta and uterus will stretch to make way for your baby causing the mother to feel cramps in the stomach. Also, as the baby grows, an increased supply of amniotic fluid will surround and support your baby inside your womb.
16 Weeks Pregnant Symptoms for the Woman
Cramping is normal because as your baby grows, your uterus and belly make ample space for your baby’s comfort. Around the same time, the mother’s milk production starts. So you will feel tenderness in your breasts and an obvious enlargement ensues. Your sense of smell becomes sensitive and some might even lose appetite due to the heightened sensitivity of the nose. And some would have the tendency to throw up due to the strong smell. However, every expectant woman should try to overcome these tendencies because it is important to stay healthy and eat right for the baby’s sake. At 16 weeks pregnant, one would most likely feel that she’s finally entered motherhood because she could now see the features of her baby through ultrasound scan, and feel her inside her womb moving.
