Itchy knee-Causes

Itchy knee is an irritating condition. As the name suggests, this condition causes a person to feel itchiness at or around the knee. It should be known that this condition may also serve as a formidable sign of any insidious or forthcoming disease or disorder. Hence any such condition when persist for longer time or/ and is intolerable should be diagnosed and treated immediately. It should also be kept in mind that the condition may be result of several factors or medical conditions. Here are some, but not all, factors that may lead to itchy knee.

Xerotic eczema:

Xerotic eczema is a skin related chronic health issue. This condition is usually characterized by dry patches seen on the skin. This condition is usually noticed in winter or may be stimulated by environment which may have insignificant humidity such as in winter season; this leads the skin to turn extremely dry. Itchiness of skin may also be experienced due to dry skin at knee.

Atopic dermatitis:

Atopic dermatitis is again a skin related chronic issue wherein the skin becomes highly sensitive to several substances. This condition is usually characterized by inflammation, blisters, redness or itchiness of skin. When atopic dermatitis is attacking at knee there are high chances that the person may also have itchy knee. Atopic dermatitis is also associated with allergies and unusual or ineffective response of immune system to substances present in environment may also trigger the issue. Atopic dermatitis is also sometimes referred to as atopic eczema.

Contact Dermatitis:

Contact dermatitis is another skin issues wherein inflammation of the skin is experienced. This may be due to direct exposure to allergen or/ and irritants. Similar to atopic dermatitis, even contact dermatitis is characterized by inflammation of skin, reddened skin region, blisters and itchiness. These skin conditions may sometimes look like thermal burns. It should be known that contact dermatitis in its conventional form is not contagious and is known to be benign.

Infestation:

Infestation happens when a parasites or/ and other pests who are carrier of harmful microorganism affects an individual. There are several types of infestation which may include Ectoparasitic infestation (which may include scabies, etc), head-louse infection or pediculosis, tick infestation etc.

Infection:

An infection can happen through various ways; however, the most primary mode of infection is through microorganism or bacteria causing the issue. These bacteria may be transferred to you through parasites, birds or animals etc. in some cases the infection may also be contagious and may spread by direct exposure to the source or carrier of the virus. Infection usually causes itchiness which when affect the knee a person may experience itchy knee. Sources that may cause infection include micro parasites, micro organism, prions, viroids or bacteria. Infection is stronger in people who have weak immune system. Obstructive biliary disease:

Obstructive biliary disease is a physical condition wherein blockage of the bile ducts is experienced. To your information, bile ducts are those vessels that carry away bile content out of the liver towards the gall bladder or the digestive system. There are several physical conditions or diseases that may cause such blockage of the bile duct. These disease may include, abnormal tumor, inflammation of bile duct, gallstone (formation of crystalline concentration), build duct trauma. Chronic Renal failure:

Chronic renal failure is also sometimes referred to as chronic kidney disease. This condition is usually recorded in people with diabetes mellitus and hypertension (high blood pressure) as these people are more prone to the disease. However, it should be known that this condition may also affect other normal individuals as well. There are several symptoms of this disease, however one may also experience itchy knee when affected by chronic renal failure.

Malignancy:

Malignancy is a conditions wherein any present medical conditions has the tendency progress and turn extremely hazardous or life threatening. This is specially seen in case of tumors wherein the condition may also lead to death of the affected person. Malignancy in case of cancer may be extremely serious and is usually characterized by metastasis, anaplasia, etc. Malignant is a medical term which is used to refer to progressive and worsening state of any disease. This term is commonly used in case of cancer. In case of non cancerous tumor the condition may be benign but a malignant tumor may have its influence on the adjacent tissues and may also spread to distant tissues. There are certain diseases which may not have any influence on the knee initially, however, during the process of malignancy, there are chances that the affected individual may also experience itchy knee.

Knee rashes:

Knee rashes or abrasion may also lead to itchiness of knee. These rashes may be caused due to many reasons. For example, side effects of medication etc may cause such skin abrasion or rashes. Such rashes may also be noticed due to infection at the knee.

Neurodermatitis:

Neurodermatitis is also sometimes referred to as lichen simplex chronicus. This is a skin disorder wherein the affected individual may experience irritation on the skin. This condition is also characterized by chronic itchiness as well as uncontrollable desire to scratch the affected skin region. Neurodermatitis usually affect people within the age group of 20 to 50. It is more commonly found in women as compared to men. Since the condition involves irritation as well as itchiness of skin, there are chances that a person suffering itchy skin is perhaps due to affliction of neurodermatitis.

Apart from the aforementioned conditions there are other physical maladies associated with itchiness of skin. These conditions may include diabetes, cholestasia, nerve damages, senile pruritis etc. Since itchy knee is associated with so many causes, it is better to get diagnosed and treat iit timely to avoid adverse consequences.
