Understand SPF in Sunscreen Creams

We have seen and heard SPF in sun screen creams and lotions. But what is it exactly? SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. SPF 15 blocks out 93 percent of Ultraviolet B rays, SPF 30 blocks 97 percent while SPF 45 gives 99 percent protection. This means, if the heat outside is such that you’d start to tan or break into sweat in 20 minutes, an SPF 15 will extend your protection 15 times longer, which means about 300 minutes. In fact, unless you are exposed to sun the whole day, SPF 30 or SPF 15 will suffice. For the Indian skin, SPF 15 or SPF 20 is good enough.
